Log-file analysis reviews server requests to understand crawler behavior. For SEO, it helps show which URLs verified crawlers request, how often they request them, which status codes they receive, and whether crawl attention is focused on important pages.

It is most useful for large sites, migrations, crawl traps, indexation issues, response-code problems, and situations where Search Console or crawler data does not explain what is happening.

What to inspect

• Verified crawler identity.
• Requests by URL group.
• Status-code patterns.
• Redirects and chains.
• Last crawled date.
• Response time.
• Parameter and duplicate URL requests.
• Crawl share for important versus low-value pages.

Log files show crawler requests, not ranking quality. They should be combined with Search Console, site crawls, sitemaps, and analytics.
